Uninstall the junk and demo software you don't use.

If you have not re-installed winderz in a long time, use on of teh
free registry cleaning programs and get rid of the old junk.

Do a deep virus scan

and use HijackThis to see what is being loaded when you start.
(I only have 2 lines in my file now)

Also, shut off any virus checking software while running. That can
mess things up as well.
