Sadly, not here! I don't know about OTHER areas of the U.S, but until 1990
or just before, one could get 3-phase service at a residence (non-commercial
location) here (Houston area) if he paid the extra cost to supply the "pots" and
extra lines, if needed. But about that time, the local power firm decreed it
would no longer supply service to non-commercial customers for any reason or
fee. Whew! I got mine installed in '85 for $1500, the additional cost to the
power-company to increase the pots RIGHT BEHIND my shop in the back yard
("garden" in England) which also serve the private-school, which has gobs of AC
equipment running on 3-phase. UK is, of course, much more civil and logical
in such matters. Here, it is more a matter of which stockholder has more $
invested, and read somewhere 3-phase causes VD in residential customers. I
mean, these old boys (and I mean VERY old!) will respond, "Don't confuse me with
FACTS! My mind is made UP!" to the television reporter!
