There are two basic types of miniature circuit breakers (mcb) used in
consumer units. The most common type is "type A" and is normally used where
purely resistive loads are present - For example, on a lighting ring.
A "type B" mcb is used with inductive loads such as large motors or heavy
duty transformers.
In a domestic environment, a "type A" mcb for the ring main is normally rated
at 32A and is sufficiently over rated to handle inductive loads such as
washing machines or vacuum cleaners.
Note: a) Much of this is limited to European electrical installations.
b) This is probably getting outside of Bill's charter. Subject closed.
Regards, Paul.
