Its basically the CAM portion of a CAD/CAM program. It is a sub-program where the G-code/ part program machine language is written. Usually software providers have to write many different ones in many different formats to accomodate different machine controllers. Not all Machine controllers use G-codes in the exact same manner as others. Like my machine uses Mach2 control software and I use Bobcad/cam to draw my workpieces. When I draw a part then generate the code in BobCad/Cam a seperate window opens (post processor) And the code is written exactly so Mach 2 will understand it. Then it is saved/sent to Mach2 and is ready to go without editing. Use the wrong post processor and you will be continually editing every program you generate. Most machine controllers are pretty forgiving then some are sticklers for detail. Their code must be exactly correct or it isnt moving.
How to write one?? I have no idea.
