I have a DRO for my sure line and I'd like to be able to use it on my enco
mill/drill. It's the unit sureline offers. Rather than just find a new set
of wheel encoders to match the thread pitch of the enco I'd like to find a
set of scales for better accuracy. So I'd guess the first question is what
kind of signals do the scales put out and should I even try go that route?
The unit reads the encoders on the hand wheel of the sureline so I'm
guessing they are quaderature encoders.
Thaks Rob..
Rob,
Off the top of my head I see some problems with this conversion!
1. Turn to movement distance is not the same!
2. Travel on X-axis is 20" or more
3. Hard to read with distances between wheels on mill
Sell your current set!
Mill/Drill DRO 3-axis kits up to this point have been expensive with bottom
price of $750.00 on CBX system and much more for other systems. I have yet
to find one having an engineered mounting system for a Mill/Drill. DRO
accuracy is dependent on a rigid mounting system.
Total support of any DRO manufacturer for mill/drill installation has been a
few hobbyist pictures. Z-axis mounting has been a major problem for these
installations.
Options:
About a year ago I found myself in the same position in wanting a DRO system
and went through everything available. I became frustrated with cost and
lack of installation support for these smaller machines.
I ended up building a solution and now have components directly manufactured
for me. It was the only way to bring a 3-axis DRO system cost down into
hobby friendly range. Kit comes with full installation instructions,
critical brackets and installation support for the RF style mill/drill.
Accuracy is excellent combining Factory first grade scales with a well
engineered mounting system. Current special is $350.00 with free shipping!
I have a ShumaTech option if you wish to build a more advanced display
system. Which includes scales, scale connector cables and installation kit
cost $250.00 plus shipping.
Shortly I will be selling 5 inch Quill kits that that are ready to install
for RF and Bridgeport Style mills!
