Jan,
If a Heidenhain encoder has a DIN connector it wasn't
put on there by Heidenhain. I did a google search for
Heidenhain connector and found out that they are
called "m23" connectors -- apparently due to their
size.
They look like this:
http://www.sealconusa.com/connectors/products/m23_inox/inox_str_conn_fml.htm
Phoenix Contact apparently makes them which probably
means I could get them through an American
distributor, but they have no online catalog for these
connector types.

European style circular connectors like you see on
Heidenhain
encoders.
They are primarily metal and plastic, but of
considerably cheaper
construction
than mil-std connectors. I was wondering if anyone
knew U.S. sources
of these
connectors,<<
Would these be "DIN connectors"? Kinda a
'sheet-metal' cover with
'rotate
90 to lock-on', with 5 and 8 pins?
Radio Shack (Tandy) has those! Different "grades",
too! Machined and
gold-plated, as I recall.
