I guess your right. But in the aerospace business a 20ft block of
stainless would be called a meterite!!! Too heavy for any practical
aerospace use!!
I was just interested that the thing can hold .012" absolute over
it's entire envelope (Y=50ft*12=600 inches) or 1 part in 50,000.
Or .002% of desired dimesion. For my mill to duplicate that
percentage it would have to machine a 1 foot piece to 1/4 mil
accuracy.
Even in softer material ( like aluminum and fiber stuff) That is
pretty good. I have a cad plan of a garden shed all ready for that
mill. I just need the 20' square block of wood to machine it out
of!!!
I just thought it was neat to see a big gantry design and look a the
specs they can achieve. It gives us humble hobbyist some idea of the
biggest and best that money can buy.
