I've thought about a gantry router myself and this is how I would go about traversing the gantry. Lay a long section of precision rack gear along each side with 4 pinion gears one at each corner of the gantry supported by an adjustable spring loaded cam-follower on the backside of the rack to maintain the pinions engagement to the rack. And drive one pinion gear on each side with a timing belt from each gear up to an axle above with toothed belt sheaves that is driven by a servo or stepper motor. Thereby equalizing the movement. I would think driving only one side of a long gantry would produce a "racking" situation. Rack and pinion gears are much cheaper than ballscrews and more precise than a leadscrew that continually needs to be adjusted for backlash. Oops! I just re-read your post again. sounds like you are moving a table rather than a gantry. mount the acme screw as close to center between the two linear supports as possible.

i might not be calling this by the right name but here goes my
question i am building a router table from advise no plans here
anyway i have the x axis in place and the table slides well so now i
want to mount some acme allthread rod to make it move i have thought
about this and it seems that this needs to be perfectly inline or i
will have binding does anyone know of a method to do this and get it
right the first time ?
