Rack and pinion will, generally, be much cheaper than a ballscrew.
Ballscrews are, generally, more efficient and a lot more precise than rack
and pinion mechanisms. Rack and pinions require each tooth be machined as a
separate, discrete entity. A ballscrew can be rolled as one continuous unit,
removing the cogging action that is inherent with gearing.
