Possibly pointless micro hole drilling in paper :)

on 2004-12-16 14:06:27 UTC
I bought a plasma globe from Maplin (like radio shack) yesterday for
almost nothing. After playing for a while I removed the globe
leaving just the bare wire. This was always my intention as I am
looking at making a small corona treater, anyway thats a different
story.

Take an insulated screwdriver and hold it close the the end of the
wire and you get a spark between wire and screw driver. Place a
piece of paper over the wire and tap with the screw driver and you
get a tiny hole in the paper, longer taps produce larger holes. The
smallest just look like dots unless you hold it to the light.

The idea is to place an plate on the milling bed (probably insulated
from the machine) and a pointed electrode in the chuck. Position
some paper on top of the plate and the electrode just over the paper
and switch the discharge with the PC. The result is CNC micro hole
drilling though paper.

Why? I have no idea, perhaps pretty pictures, perhaps filters,
maybe higher voltage for leather marking.

p.s. High voltages are dangerous, don't play with them!
