Years ago, when I was a relative newbie in the sign trade, we often used
a machine to make paper patterns,
you'd draw or trace out the atwork full size, then using what amounts to
a neon xfrmr in a case with an insulted probe,
trace the patter to pounce the paper, similar to what would be done with
a pounce wheel.
Lay the pattern over your sign or whatnot, take a pounce pad with some
powdered charcoal(light surfaces)
or baby/talcum powder(dark surfaces) and then fill 'er in. funny thing,
with vehicle graphics I still use the same method
to ensure that both sides are the same.
