Hello
I have a bunch of motors that are of the same make
and size as the MAXNC uses(stepper). I also have the
driver boxes to control the motors. These are not the microstepping
drivers. I have about a doz that are for sale. They have the
plugs except for the power plugs which are available. I wish
to sell them, jjust haven't got around to it. I need about $60-
70 for a motor and controller. I have all the numbers at the shop
and manuals are available off the internet from the manufacturer.
Each driver is individually programmed. You wouldn't need
this for a 3 axis CNC machine. I think it would be more suitable
for dedicated machine. A friend of mine made a machine for building
wooden shutters for home windows. These would work for a machine
like that that has many sequential operations to perform.

It would be helpful if you told us your application.
I don't see any reason why you couldn't run Mach2, TurboCNC or any
other program setup for a CNC. All of these programs already do
exactly what you described. Each motor in a CNC system IS
independently controlled in regards to speed and direction. Mach2 for
one, will control up to 6 motors (7 if you count a spindle).
This is more of a matter of telling the machine what to do, than a
controller issue. The controller only will do what you tell it do,
and generally speaking, you will have to talk to the controller via G-
code.
Now, if you are talking about each motor doing something, then
waiting for some condition to occour...then doing something
else...you start getting into custom hardware and software (that you
will no doubt have to write yourself) ~ or something along the lines
of a PLC. I know that you can do this type of programming relatively
easy via HPVEE software, if using a PLC type setup. The other thing
that I would look into is a STAMP motor controller and logic board.
You can create your own harware controller and software interface
exactly the way you want it.
Hope that helps,
