Ok: "Lighting voltage" IS 120 VAC. This varies from 107 to 128 in many
instances, and probably even wider in some cases. The "engineering" of what
transformers are installed "on the pole" and the regulation of the 4.5 to 20 kV
supplied to "residential transformers" is not at all predictible, regular,
regulated.

HOWEVER! Most U.S. homes are supplied with "center-tapped" 240 VAC. The
"tap" is "neutral". Neutral plus either side is 120 VAC. The 240 is used for
electric cook-stoves, furnaces, larger Air Conditioning machinery motors, and
even some "window-mounted air-conditioning units". Three phase is very rare
for homes in USA, but SOME of us are lucky and have that. This is not the
place to go into "open delta" and "balanced Y 3-phase", etc.!
