emc.ini configuration

Hello,
I am newbie to emc, I would like to try emc2 for the real production.
My PC OS is Redhat Linux 8, kernel 2.4.6-adeos. I have emc2 installed
from CVS.
I can do jogging on from emc2 GUI window with my homemade CNC
(stepping motor, parallel port). But I could not run G-code in MDI mode.
There was an error about out of limit. I have no experience on how to
set the .ini file parameter. I had read emc handbook but it could not
help.
Where can I find or anyone can let me know the good tutorial for using
emc.
