Subject: Using MACH2 with Older Taig CNC MicroMill 2000
I'm watching a Taig CNC mill on eBay and I'm curious about how hard it
would be to ditch the DOS-based software that comes with it and use
something like MACH2.
Any wisdom out there?
Thanks,
Wally
[About a year ago, Taig changed its controllers from the original Phase or
"wave" drive system to the more standard Step/direction protocol. These
newer machines are compatible with Mach2, which is a step/direction
controller. To use Mach with a phase drive machine would require installing
some extra hardware. Peter Homann in Australia had some "TurboTaig" boards
that would do that; or you could send the control box back to Taig for
updating. You might try a question to the seller, asking if this machine
used one or the other protocol, or failing that, get a date of manufacture
to check with the folks at Taig.]
