Yeah lots of Bridgeport retrofits with PC control. First what you need to find out is what type of motor: Servo or steppers. Then start from there. More than likely, due to its age, it's probably servos. You'll wind up keeping the mounts and the motors as long as they are DC brush type servos. And possibly the power supply. The rest usually gets replaced. Can't do AC or DC brushless with whats available.

Get the data off of the motor plates and post it on here. You can tell if its a brushed motor as you can see the large plastic caps with a screwdriver slot for the brushes on the rear of the motors. In any event it can be retrofitted even if the motors need to be replaced.

I've been running a retrofit PC controlled Bridgeport for almost two years now. they work out very well.

I have tracked down this mill (vintage 1987) and am thinking of riping
out the electronics (9500 baud) and running it on a PC with Mach2 with
a breakout board and three servo drivers (if I can't link to the
existing 24 vdc motor controllers) Mill has a manual knee and 3 CNC
axes with the quill.
The Biridgeport iron looks OK, variable drive is quiet. I would like to
icorporate the existing CNC controls into the Mach2 keygrabber, etc, if
feasible.
Has anyone gone this route on a Bridgeport?

Thanks,

Harley
