re the discussion of 56,000 rpm motors,
I purchased from EBAY a couple years ago a motor similar to the Westwind, I
think the company clones them or something:
Air Bearings LTD, model AW125E/04, serial no. 0328, 125,000 rpm
200V - 2084 Hz, 3 A rated, actual 2 A, 200 V at 125,000 rpm.
This has air bearings and is water cooled.
It was rebuilt before I bought it by the factory, I have the repair sheet
with test results (to 125,000 rpm), dates, vibration level, run out and so
on.
It has what looks to be a 1/8" collet.
diameter is about 2.45", total length about 10".
I bought it thinking that it would fit my Taig mill, but then it got here
and is much too large/heavy, so it stayed in the box. It is a beautiful
spindle, way too pretty for my machine.
My reading on these indicates that dry air is needed, they use refrigerated
dryers for this. The bearings are water cooled. Keeping the temperature
very constant prevents axial growth of the motor, improving z axis accuracy.
It is just taking up space here, perhaps I can get back what I paid for it.
The first $150 + shipping will take it. Anyone interested?
