At one time Roskford would sell directly, I know I called them a year or so ago and they quoted me a price over the phone? I got mine through Mcmaster Carr and they were like $700. I ordered the timing pulleys and belts at the same time. Got it all in one shipment the next morning for like $850. There was a guy on Ebay that had some ground screw sets for like $600. They would come up under a search for "9X42" if I remember correctly. The ballscrews are the big hidden investment into that project. After Install there isn't much to admire except when the axis moves. The new sets are alot better than the old one as they have adjustable pre-load to remove backlash over time. The ones in my other mill aren't like that, all one can do is go oversize on the balls to compensate for wear but, they last for years and years.

Ron,

Thanks for the good advice (feeling better already). Do you
know of a good distributor? I don't think they sell direct
if I remember their website correctly.

This will be my first step, then it's what servos, etc.
With great guys like you, I'll save a lot of $$ and time :)

Thanks again,

George

Sure they are. That is per foot and its a tolerance not a guarantee to
be out that much. I need to get out some ground standards and check
these that I have. I'm thinking there isn't going to be much of an
error. If they touted .001" error tolerance per foot, nobody would buy
the ground screws that they sell also. Alot of companies market things
that way. Even if they are out that much over a foot. Divide that by 12
and thats how much they'll be out in an inch, if the accumaltive error
is consistent throughout 12". .00025" error in an inch is more than any
Bridgeport could hope to hold anyway with cutter deflection etc. They
are good screws for a Bridgeport.
