Hi sounds good... Have you ever thought of trying a geared down stepper, via timing belt and pulley system to a home made rotary divice? I do believe it would eliminate all backlash....

I'm using deskcnc and a rotary axis, very simple plug a step drive
and motor and there you have.
Only problem is to find a zero backlash rotary table to use.
I'm using a 40:1 gear reduction and it have about 3min. of backlash
when machining up to 1" diameter it's not a problem, but when
machining a 4" diameter than we got problems.
