You'll see those terms mostly in astronomy, relating to a certain area of
'sky', or field of view. For a better perspective of an arc-second, a
quarter (25 cent piece) viewed 'edge-on' from a mile (5280 feet) away
encompasses about one fourth of an arc-second. And, that's actually a very
wide field of view, compared to some of our best scopes. They have resolving
power to thousandths of arc-seconds.
