VFD?

Hi,
I am thinking about adding a VFD to my bridgeport retrofit. I have a J2 head with variable pulleys, so changing speeds manually is not a big hassle. Also for rough and finish cuts I normally have to change or regrind cutters too, so I normally don't change the speed during a cut. What advantange would I have by adding a vfd. I have acquired an old inverter from the local junkyard. It is Sumitomo model AF3004-2A2, 2.2 kW. Any hints on where to get it's operating instructions.
