All three axes are driven by perm magnet dc servo motors, 3.2 NM stall torque, 145V, pulse amps 32. The machine is in excellent working condition. Any suggestions on the best way to upgrade it to full 3D control.

I've got a series 1 Mk1, bought it with a fire damged control. Yours is
the later larger model with glassfibre covers?

SEM motors? If so these have Heidenhain resolvers which are not quite
a full encoder. I fitted a US Digital Encoder in place of these. Just
left the tacho unconnected.

Bosch Drives? I sold mine and replaced with Gecko 320's The lower
voltage was ok for me. Rutex do a higher voltage step/dir drive.

You could do something similar and use Mach3, or try to interface to the
original drives with something like the Rutex stp/dir>analogue converter.
