Thanks to everyone who responded to my question.
It lead me to realise that you only need an "electronic gearbox" like I
envisaged if you retain manual control of the crossfeed. Once the
computer controls everything, as long as it knows where the spindle is
it can control everything - much easier!
So I'll look in to using TurboCNC.
Anyone got any suggestions on how they have attached steppers to the
Myford Super 7 please?
