Digital Camera batteries

Hi,
I'm a little confused - I use a Casio QV-5000 SX which eats batteries like
they're going out of fashion and I'd love to change to a rechargeable type
but the instruction book suggests that rechargeables won't work - presumably
because they only give 1.2 volts rather than 1.5 per cell. There is also a
sticker on the camera which says ' weak batteries generate heat'. I don't
use the camera much out of doors and usually use a regulated mains supply
indoors but it would be nice to be able to take it out without having to
spend a fortune on Duracell Ultras to be able to do so. Is it likely that my
camera will work OK on NiMh batteries or would it be too much of a gamble to
risk the expense?? Any opinions? Thanks,
Ian
