You would be surprised at how many Amish out there use high technology. As
I understand it, they can use it they just don't "own" it. I am not sure if
leasing is considered owning but I do know that in Ohio there are several
Amish operated (don't know if they own them) wood working shops with almost all
CNC equipment from panel saws and routers to Point to Point boring machines.
And these shops have plenty of PCs in the office. In fact, most have
sophisticated CAD/CAM programs and everything is networked so they can just shoot
out the programs to the machines.
I have serviced several of these shops and installed several of the CNC
machines in them.
Now, I have also had to modify machines to run off of line shafts that were
driven by water wheels and gearing, now that was some fun. Of course these
were not CNC. :-)
Anyway, just some observations.
