Fast Blow fuses are a simple design that opens up when you exceed the
rated current.
The problem is that many things (incandescent light bulbs and motors are
two perfect examples) will draw a good deal more current when they start
up.
A slow blow fuse has a thermal delay so it can withstand overcurrent for
a few seconds.
