Hello
As a newcomer, and new to cnc, I just wanted to introduce myself.
I am just starting to use Autocad LT 2004 and would like to eventually
learn a 3D cad/cam program and just maybe retrofit a small mill and
lathe for cnc machining.
My interest in using cnc machining is mainly for use in making metal
patterns for spincasting model and miniature parts. I spin-cast model
and miniature parts in resin, Britannia metal, and zinc-aluminum. My
molds are made of vulcanized silicone rubber and the patterns need to
withstand high pressure as well as 350degF temperature. Brass seems
to be the best material for patterns since it is easy to work and
withstands vulcanization well. I currently make patterns by combining
manual machining skills with hand shaping, fabricating and
finishing. CNC machining would allow me to go from a cad drawing to
cnc program to machined part eliminating a lot of the work out of
making the patterns and produce much nicer patterns. So I hope some
of you will share your knowledge and experience.
