I finally got everything together and on a breadboard so I could
start playing with the chip and seeing how to get everything working.
Last night I managed to get the stepper motor to twitch for 2
seconds and then it stopped. I was unable to repeat the results. I
was using JediCut to send step and direction commands.
Sooooo, I'm trying to figure out how to get this darn thing to work.
Here's what I have so far:
There are 9 Logic inputs on this controller:
DIRECTION and STEP are hooked to the LPT1 port on my CPU.
I have SLEEP and RESET logic high with 5 volts from the DC bus.
MS1, MS2, ENABLE, HOME and SR are all logic low - I have no voltage
running to them and they are not connected to anything.
I'm running everything from a model train transformer. VRef, Vdd are
all pulling 4 - 5 volts and the stepper motor (1.7 amp, 20 something
volts) is being run off of 10.5 volts to start.
So am I doing anything wrong here???? Or should it be working? And
what the heck is the SR input? They don't cover that anywhere in the
manuals for the chip...and I've looked over them 20 or 30 times!
Thanks for any help. I'm proud that I've gotten this far...and I owe
it mainly to you folks! All the electronics I built as a kid blew up
or smoked - and that hasn't happened yet!
