I've thought about this also, With Mach3 since it's a mill and lathe software. It should be as easy as switching motor leads from one machine to the other. Each version of mach3 would have a different xml/config. If it was set up properly with quality connections it shouldn't be a problem. All the motors would need be the same size. But, not neccesarily.
To leave them connected to the control all the time would require two different parallel ports and separate drives. One port for each machine, one set of drives for each machine.

I am running out of space in my tiny shop and rather than dedicating a
computer for each small CNC machine I'd like to have two controllers
hooked up to one computer through a printer switch.
These are small controllers, Taig and Xylotex and no, I won't be using
more than one at a time...
Are there any issues I should be aware of like voltage/current drop,
unreliability, total destruction of the control, etc? Anyone doing this?
The printer switch I have is old - I know some changes have been made in
communication between printers and computers in the last, um, 6 or 8
years, are there big diferences in switches?
TIA,
Nick
