counterbalancing

Darrell: That is a great idea to counterbalance to ease the strain on
the axis motor.I am going to consider doing that on my Bridgeport
conversion. I am driving the knee as z axis. Counterbalancing that big
chunk of iron will make a major improvment in speed . I don't know why I
didn't think of that. I have a really old combination
horizontal/vertical mill that uses a very heavy counterweight to help
move the head on huge dovetails. No quill and no knee feed. An old
"NEWTON" milling machine. Probably used as an auxilliary anchor on the
Mayflower.Thanks for the tip!
