I fooled around with the mouse dro too. The resolution is just too
coarse to be of any real use.

Buy 2 or 3 of the motors/encoders from Eletronics Goldmine and
build Steve Lindsay's or Dan Mauch's interface. Lindsay's setup
can be put together for under $30 including encoders.
