Myself I like the G320 over the G340. The G320 is also cheaper.
The G320 is best where you don't have a high number of steps per unit, you
have a 1 Ghz or faster pc. and your software will produce the pulse rate you

need for the speeds you want. Here is the easiest method to determine.
If the combination of drive ratio and encoder ppr and your software is
limited t 45,000 pulses per second and you have 45000 steps to the inch
then the max speed with a G320 would be 60 IPM. If you calculate that your
need faster speed then a G340 with it's rate multiplier would be required.
On the other hand if you cut your steps to 22,500 per unit then you would
get 120 IPM.
With a G340 set to yield 10 steps for every incoming step then with 40000
steps per unit with the G320 would be reduced to 4000 steps per unit with
the G340 and thus should be 10 times faster.
The down side of the G340 is the direction change timing seems to be longer
than the G320.
