Hi Lawrence,
Here's what I would suggest. Pick an embedded processor like a TI DSP
TMS320F2808 or an ARM or something that runs in the 100+ MHz range. Then
program it to do the moves toggling a parallel port. Send it the moves via
USB or Ethernet.
The alternative is to pick a PC motherboard and install real time Linux on
it and use it as TCP/IP receptacle for your movement commands and have it
toggle the hardware ports.
In either case, remove yourself from Windows for anything but the user
interface. In the long run it will save you a bunch of grief.
