Thank you for your input.

The prices quoted by McMaster-Carr are for the cut lengths which will go in
the middle of a suitcase. It would be a very determined baggage handler that
could bend 34" of 1" diameter hardened steel bar. The only thing that
worries me is the X-ray machine. Customs may think it is a gun barrel. A
definite no no in this country.

I'll send Thomson another email and see if they reply this time. If they can
match the price plus 50% I'll get the higher spec screws.
