Just a thought , if you are using opto interruptors I would suggest using the type which incorporate logic with a builtin schmidt trigger circuit as this will make it much easier to get a constant switch point . I have used these as stop signal sources in auomation equipment though I cannot comment on absolute accuracy as my application did not call for this to be checked. However the electronics do offer a nice package for easy interfacing.
The ones I used are from RS Components in England so have an RS code 304 560 but also have a number HOA2001-1 Mexico so this may indentify it if you dont have access to RS Components. I am sure that this is not the only one with this configuration though.
