Baldor are expensive, but they are good rugged reliable drives. I have used
many analogue ones, never had a problem.
There are a number of others, some good, some not, and some unknown which we
are presently trying to evaluate.
The cheaper questionable ones are:-
Rutex a step direction drive that has some noise issues.
http://www.rutex.com/entersite.htm
Teknix the Tek20 but it has presently be removed from their
website. They will supply specifically after discussing motor specs.
http://cncteknix.com/portal/index.php
LarkenCNC Viper drive, new product, sounds good, don't know
anyone using the high voltage ones yet.
http://www.larkencnc.com/viper/index.shtml
Servo Dynamics, analogue drive, mid priced, looks professional?
http://www.servodynamics.com/Br_Brs.html
Jon Elson's drives, it is a pwm input drive, but depending on
how you want to control it may be suitable. They are supposed to be very
tough, and Jon will support you from this site and others. The price is also
quite good. http://jelinux.pico-systems.com/pwmservo.html
Many of us have Rutex drives. Some like them, some have endless noise
issues. The PID control is good, but transient protection and noise immunity
appears not to be.
I have Rutex drives, I have beat the noise issues, but after a recent
failure am looking for a more reliable drive.
Several people have the low voltage Teknix drives and are happy with them.
Hope this helps, be very wary of the sales BS, give the drive manufacturer
all your machine details motor etc, and ensure they say it will work,
offloading some of the liability so to speak.

Billy,
Baldor makes one.
I built a control box recently for a customer using a Baldor speed control.
The 0~10 VDC speed control came from our combo breakout board.

I plan to use a 120 volt DC brush type motor, 6 amp to drive spindle on
small mill.
