Okay, you probably have a debounce that looks like a simple RC
circuit. Have you considered adding series ferrite beads and schmidt
triggers on the lines (if you are near the transition a Schmidt will
help a lot with little delay.)

Also, an optoisolator may help you get past a ground loop.

If Z is SPDT, there is a good debouncer (basically an RS flipflop)
which is very good at controlling noise. Also, a pair of fast
(Schottky for instance) diodes, one to ground and one to +VCC will
help stop spikes. Just an RC may not be enough.
