I don't know if anyone will get around to publishing a cookbook on how
to modify any specific printer and you will probably be more or less
on your own no matter what you choose. The only absolute is that they
are inkjet.
I like the newer HP's but this is an opinion not founded on experince.
Your HP 500 may be a good choice as it uses an older style cartridge
which is easy to refill.
