Its possible, but*much* more difficult and expensive this way.
The guys who use big, expensive commercial analogue servo amplifiers, in
the 1 kW range, about 1000 $ /axis electronics only, do it like this.
You have 2 roads;
your current plan; you need cards that convert step/dir signals to
+/-10v dc;
-about 500$ each
then the drives; about 150 $ for geckos / per axis;
and a breakout board (cnc4pc c10 card);
power supply (make your own);
and machine controller, emc2 or mach3 (free or 150$).
You will be much better off buying a matched set of drives and motors.
It will be a lot cheaper.
It will be easier and a bit cheaper and a lot safer with steppers.
Your performance will be the same with a minimill.
