threaded mail reader, I find the overtrimming much worse than no
trimming. Especially when someone trims out the entire original post,
and just responds with their response without any context. This is
especially frustrating if it has been several days before I can read the
list and have forgotten what the initial thread was in the first place.
I realize that there are people out there that still don't have hard
drives and have 1200bd modems, maybe even some with 300bd modems and
acoustical couplers, but really, a single (typical) web page has the
same, or larger, data footprint as the entire days worth of posts
without ANY trimming.
I have 2005-2008 of CAD_CAM, Jobshop, Mill_Drill, DIY_CNC, Southbend,
major threads from 2002-2004 of CAD_CAM and other newsgroups in my mail
archive. The entire file is 112mb. That is about 38mb per year for over
7 active news groups. That's about 5mb per newsgroup per YEAR. Sorry,
but that is hardly even a quantifiable amount of data in today's
numbers. You get more than that in flash ads every day!
