Actually, they are metric in pitch and diameter. BA threads were
derived from a Swiss series used by watchmakers in that country. The
preferred tapping and clearance drills are all in metric sizes. The
471/2 degree thread angle was empirically developed as working best
in the materials and sizes normallly associated with Swiss watch and
clock making.
