Thanks. I straightened each lead screw by laying it on a flat surface where
I could sight along the length from one end and, while holding the middle in
place from one side (wearing cotton gloves makes this easier), twisting it
slowly with the other hand. You can see the other end wobble if it is bent,
and stop twisting when the far end is at its lowest point. Then lift the
near end and place your hand at the middle or further toward the far end,
depending on where it is bent, and press down. Repeat from each end until
there is no discernable wobble. It takes a while to get the "touch" but it
can be done to within a few hundredths of an inch. That much can be
compensated for by not allowing the lead nut to come closer than about 5"
from either end of the LS. These are 1/2-10 acme screws, and seem to come
bent from the factory. I think they'll be just fine. At about $1 a foot it's
worth a little straightening. I got them from surpluscenter.com.
