Wow, now thats a blast from the past. If g-code wasn't primitive enough,
you've got it on paper tape ;) . Sounds to me like you have the first step to
solving your problem right there, you have a second unit you know is good so
you can swap parts until you find which part is the cause of your trouble. Test
both power supplies with a multimeter first though just in case.
By the sound of things it could be worth while making a note of what chips and
part numbers are in there so if, in the future, you want to link straight up
to a PC you will have all the info to find the easiest spot to tap straight
into. If it has a paper tape reader there is a good chance it has a standard
serial interface (COM port) between it and the main unit.
