Distiller is the no-cost version. Not as efficient as the full version but it works. Pdf's are essentially a compressed postscript
file with a few things added; or so I'm told.

I just checked the Adobe page and Distiller seems to have gone away. The do offer a monthly on-line service at $9.95/mo to do
conversions. Free trial right now.

There may still be sites out there that have copies of distiller for download but I don't know of any.
