"You got good advice from Jon and David, two well respected members.
IMO, the most important Q you need to define is what is "well" for you ?
It is very possible to make small numbers of parts, slowly, on any
chinese mini-mill or lathe (cnc OR manual).
Here, we talk about a few units / day."
Boy, everything he says rings true to me. Both from the point of view about
how long it takes to make things, and the quality and cost of tooling and
equipment to make things. I am just a hobbiest for past ten years and not
yet in possession of CNC equipment, but I easily have three times the amount
of money in tooling and bits as I have in my three main machines, a lathe, a
vertical mill, and a shaper. The only thing he left out is the "learning
curve" of doing repeated making of the same thing. You will get quicker,
more accurate, overall improved quality making parts, until you reach the
point where you are bored crazy and start making dumb mistakes because you
are tired of doing the same thing over and over again.
