Took apart minimill over the weekend and let's just say, the "X" axis nut is
not impressive - it's an ACME nut almost wide enough to fit into the casting
where the original nut sat, and since it doesn't fit really tight it is a
contributor to backlash. So is there a standard fix for this to minimize
backlash - like a split nut with wave washer(s) or "shim" stock to tighten
up the fit of the nut in the casting?

And the reason I took the X table off in the first place was the yaw in the
middle of travel and tightness at both ends of travel. I confirmed that the
table is tight at ends even with the lead screw removed, so while I haven't
measured the ways, they appear to be worn "significantly". I'm now
wondering if I shouldn't just put a larger table on this unit, vs trying to
rework these ways. I thought I saw a table upgrade some time ago, but I
can't seem to find it tonight. Thots?

Thanks,

Chuck Merja
