RE: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] CNC Mill?

As mentioned by someone else, it is possible the machine has some type of
counter balance for the Z axis. These can be either pre-charged with nitrogen
or some other relatively inert gas under pressure or they can be a regular air
cylinder with flow and pressure adjustments. If it is an air cylinder, you may
be able to simply make adjustments. If it is a pre-charged gas spring, etc.,
you will need to replace it, IF that is the problem. A second possibility is
the Z axis drive. If the machine is fairly new it probably has AC servo drives
on it, the other option would be DC servo drives. There are adjustments on both
types which, if out of adjustment enough, will cause "creep". Also, it is
possible the Fagor control is not properly set up or has a problem with the
analog out. Of course if the machine has digital drives, well that is another
matter. A word of caution regarding adjustment of the drives, if you have never
done it, don't try it yourself for the first time. Often one needs an
oscilloscope and other test equipment to make the adjustments. The only way to
know is to read the manuals for the drives.

Hello:

I'm looking at this CNC mill online. Any Idea what may be the problem with
the Z axis?


"Fagor 8025M control probably 2000 model, mill was a 83-3000 converted
to ball screws , servo motor pic, holds 24 tools in the ATC, moog brand
tool holders, I have about 20-30 tools for the Moog CNC Mill. There is a
port for down loading programs into the Fagor control. There are no handles
for manual use, jog with pendant and control also has jog functions. I have
several manuals for the machine. programming etc"

Problems with the z axis creeping down now until it reaches its stop
switch. Ron
