How about a CAD interface to the Taig Mill?

I got this wild idea a few years ago, to for go using G-code files and work directly with the drawing files, DXF and HPGL formats.

I set out to make it so you could pick a line in a drawing and the mill would follow the line in real space with the spindle. Or the whole drawing could be followed at a predefined depth, great for engraving.

I also found that I had to progressively cut to depth for drilling holes, cutting pockets or part profiles.

Most of the users of my program fine it extremely easy to use.

The drawing items are converted directly into motion control data records that contain direction and number of steps and frequency parameters and are sent to an external processor via a USB channel to create the step and direction signals.

It works great for making one off parts. You make a drawing of the part you want to make and create offset lines that correspond to the the toolpath, export the toolpath lines and cut.

Just thought the idea might be entertaining...
