I was an apprentice machinist in 1961 working in a Naval Shipyards machine shop when I saw my first cnc machine thaw as controlled by punch tape. It was machining a large condenser tube plate with hundreds of holes.  I remember saying to myself that one of these day I’m going to have one of those babies in my garage! I also remember as an apprentice they were teaching all of the apprentices binary math. What pissed me off was that a guy by the last name of  White use to look over my should are copy my answers. Later on he got a promotion to work in the NC tape office where they programmed the machines.
