If you can find a 1 Gb drive these days. You can probably pick one up
at a computer swap for $20. Hard drives have some peculiar failure
modes, so if you're putting anything on there that's important, have
some sort of backup plan. Personally, I like to clone the system on a
separate disk and put it on my shelf. If (when) the drive self
destructs, I can be back in business in 5 minutes.

Linux works pretty well with 16M, but 32M is definately better. I'm
not sure I'd even bother putting 64M on a system only doing EMC, even
if I had it on hand.
